We’ve created a cozy & comfy atmosphere so our customers can stay a while.

When you enter Krispy Kreme in Saco and Auburn, Maine, you may think, “this location is different”. Well, it is! As of March 2018 there are only 10 Krispy Kreme stores with the newly designed, comfort-centered layout. Both Saco and Auburn have a warmer, more modern feel as opposed to the stark white diner design of the classic Krispy Kreme stores.

Sit down and stay a while. Enjoy a cup of coffee. Bring your laptop to get some work done.  There is free wifi, plenty of power outlets, big screen TVs and lots of comfy seating. Despite the new store layout, the focus and experience is still on doughnuts! Customers can easily see the window where the warm donuts are being sweetly glazed and the iconic hot light alerts customers that fresh donuts are ready.

About the Owners

Jamal Bourote is a family-man and co-owner of several restaurants including Five Guys Burgers and Fries (Maine, Rhode Island, Mass, Florida), Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (Maine, NH) and Blaze Pizza (Maine, Mass, Rhode Island, NH).

Jamal began his career in the food industry at Au Bon Pain where he worked hard for 15 years exceeding expectations of his co-workers, managers and, as importantly, his customers. He was able to fine tune his leadership skills which reinforced his belief that the restaurant industry is “all about the people I interact with every day”.

The moment a person interacts with Jamal they will quickly realize that people are the critical component to his enthusiasm and business successes. He genuinely cares about people and every single personal interaction is important to him. If there are people involved there is a smile on Jamal’s face. Problem solving with managers and team members, strategic business planning with business partners, getting to know a new employee, quick or lengthy chats with customers, regardless of the situation, Jamal will be thriving if he is interacting with people. Despite his packed calendar, Jamal is so present with people that each moment is all that matters.

Cort Mendez is a family-man and local business owner. He always wanted to be in business for himself and dreamed of owning his own restaurant. In addition to his full-time job as a sales manager in the medical device industry, he spent years working part-time at TGI Friday’s to learn many aspects of the restaurant business.

In 2007 he signed an agreement to bring Five Guys Burgers and Fries to New Hampshire. After opening ten Five Guys restaurants throughout NH, Cort decided he was ready for another challenge. He sold the Five Guys restaurants so he and his business partner could purchase the rights to Krispy Kreme for the Maine and New Hampshire territory.

Cort became interested in the Krispy Kreme Franchise opportunity after witnessing the pure joy and excitement it brings to people. Whether it is a persons first or 20th experience at Krispy Kreme, customers experience the joy of eating a melt-in-your mouth Original Glazed doughnut.

Giving back to the community is very important too. The Krispy Kreme fundraising program lends itself to working with local business and organizations looking to raise funds. During his college years, Cort participated in a Krispy Kreme fundraiser which was greatly successful. The Krispy Kreme Fundraising program continues to be easy and fun. It provides a return of over 100% making it one of the most profitable fundraising programs available.  Utilizing social media allows people and organization to reach far beyond their immediate community, resulting in organizations meeting and, often exceeding, their fundraising goals.

Gene Prentice is a resident of Portland, Maine and co-owner of Krispy Kreme. Gene grew up in New York City and lived there as a young adult. Prior to entering the restaurant business, Gene worked in some of the finest NYC Health Clubs.  Gene has 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry. He and another business partner are owner/operators of the Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Maine, Boston and Rhode Island.

Gene associates his days of playing Little League Baseball with Krispy Kreme doughnuts. After games, his mom would buy “melt-in-your-mouth” Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the team to enjoy. Being able to eat more than one doughnut without getting sick was a bonus! Gene frequently overhears adult guests, with smiles on their faces, referring to the melt-in-your-mouth experience that they enjoyed as children.

Gene appreciates the impact that a local business can have on a community. Knowing the Krispy Kreme doughnut machines are capable of producing up to 3000 doughnuts an hour means the freshest doughnuts, in any quantity, are produced for all fundraisers. The doughnut machine is operational several times in each 24 hour time period. When the doughnut machine is not on, the bakers are planning for the next “run” of doughnuts. Original glazed. Raspberry filled. Chocolate glazed. Specialty Easter doughnuts. Reese’s peanut butter filled. Organizations hosting Krispy Kreme Fundraisers will receive doughnuts that are as fresh as the doughnuts sold in the restaurants, regardless of the quantity.
